Former PM Khurelsukh Ukhnaa elected President of Mongolia

Presidential election has been successfully held in Mongolia on June 09, 2021. According to preliminary results, candidate from ruling Mongolian People’s Party Khurelsukh Ukhnaa has gained landslide victory in the race.

According to P.Delgernaran, head of the Central Election Committee, ballots were counted both with help of automatic system and manually. Thereby, all polling station committees have completed manual and control counting. There are 2,049,379 voters registered nationwide. Out of them over 110 thousand voters are temporally excluded from the official registration list for residing abroad. Whereas, the registration of 1429 voters who returned home, was restored to cast votes.

Voter turnout was 59.35 per cent which is the lowest compared to previous presidential elections. Out of total voters registered 1,216.246 casted their votes.

Candidate from MPP, former Prime Minister Khurelsukh Ukhnaa won 823,326 or 67.76 per cent of votes. Candidate from Democratic Party Erdene Sodnomzundui secured 72,832 or only 5,99 per cent of votes. Candidate from the “Right Person Electorate” coalition Enkhbat Dangaasuren won 246,968 or 20.33 per cent of votes. Protest votes number reached 71,937 or 5.92 per cent of ballots.

A total of 18146 civil servants took part in election organizational process.
